This trail starts out at the South Mesa Trail head which leads to many different destinations and connects with Boulder’s Open Space and Mountain Park land. From the South Mesa Trail head, take the Mesa Trail to the Towhee trail. Turn left on the Towhee trail.

This trail traverses through open meadows for the most part for about .8 miles before connecting with the Mesa trail again at the Mesa Trail Intersection. Turn left on the Mesa trail.

You will follow this trail and Pass the Homestead Trail Junction after another .25 miles. Continue following this trail for about .15 miles before you come to the Shadow Canyon South trail which will veer off to the left  (southwest). Follow this trail for about 1.2 miles until it joins with the Shadow Canyon North trail to become the Shadow Canyon trail.

From here you will climb up a gully along a babbling brook until the trail intersects the South Boulder Peak Trail. Take this trail left until you summit on top of South Boulder Peak. A nice interactive map for this trail head can be found here.
